BREAKING NEWS: R2mil in stolen merchandise recovered

A 30 year old Ethiopian businessman was arrested in Mussina for being in possession of suspected stolen goods believed to be stolen from hijacked trucks in Gauteng and KZN.

The  Provincial Tracking Team conducted a sting operation in a house in Musina last night.

During the arrest, 111 boxes of Soviet shoes were confiscated and preliminary investigations revealed that they were stolen in Durban.

Further investigations led to the confiscation of 528 boxes of Nivea body lotion which are believed to be stolen from a hijacked truck in Germiston last month, according to Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

’67 boxes containing DVD players, 10 boxes of wrist watch batteries and 5 hi-sense cellphones were also confiscated and are believed to be stolen from retail Shops like Dunns, Pep and Ackermans,’ Ngoepe said in a statement.

It is believed that this is a syndicate which hijack goods trucks and distribute stolen goods to businesses in the country.

‘The estimated value of the goods is R2m including a car which is believed to be used in the distribution of the stolen goods.

More arrests are expected and the suspect will appear before Musina Magistrate Court Soon.

Police investigations are still continuing.
