Eyewitness states that 3 cars suspected in the heist set up a roadblock at the T-junction right in front of the gates to Laeveld Sitrus and fired at the approaching cash-in-transit-van.
Civilians near the t-junction at the time fled into the orchards and across the bridge for cover.
A fourth car fled the scene firing shots into the air to deter pursuit, in the direction of Tzaneen, an eyewitness told the Herald.
Marius Jacobs from Northern Security told the Herald that the Cash in Transit truck was blown up with an ‘explosive.’
According to Jacobs , one security guard was wounded during the heist
‘The suspects fled in a silver BMW and a white Volkswagen with all the money,’ Jacobs said.
