Mayoral R1.2mil car attached and returned

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor’s new R1,2 Million Mercedes Benz was attached by the Sherriff of the Court on Wednesday Morning.

This after the municipality failed to comply with the court order to pay legal costs amounting to R111 691.08.

The mayoral car which was towed away was subsequently returned after the municipality settled the legal bill with the lawyers.

Municipal spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, accused lawyers and the sheriff of being unreasonable by attaching the mayor’s car without affording the municipality a chance to settle the bill in accordance with the court order.

The matter resulted from a case in which Quality Plant Hire jointly with Expectra 388 CC took the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and Readira and Matlala Nyabele to court over the awarding of a multi million rand tender for the construction of Morutji to Matswi.

The court ruled that the tender be re-advertised and the municipality pay the legal cost.
