Crime escalates out of control in Tzaneen

Recently released crime statistics show an upward trend in the number of crimes committed in the Tzaneen area.

The number of sexual offences reported increased significantly to 134 in 2015/2016 from 84 in 2014/2015.

Assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm increased from 275 to 334 while common assault went up from 198 to 225.

Common robbery increased from 76 to 103 while robbery with aggravating circumstances is up from 124 to 153.

Theft of motor vehicles and motor cycles increased from 20 to 25 while theft of motor vehicles increased from 251 to 261.

Stock theft is up from 12 to 20 while illegal possession of firearms and ammunition increased from six to seven.

Drug related crimes up from 74 to 93. Reported crimes on the downward trend: Murders decreased from 16 to 13 while attempted murder went down from 15 to 12. Arson decreased from 10 to four while malicious damage to property went down from 160 to 131. Burglaries at non-residential premises decreased from 188 to 151 while burglaries at residential premises went down from 326 to 322.

In Bolobedu crimes such as murder and attempted murder are on the upward trend while burglaries at non-residential premises, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, sexual offences, common assault, common robbery, theft out of or from motor vehicles, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, robbery with aggravating circumstances, burglaries at residential premises, stock theft, arson, malicious damage to property, theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles and drug related crimes are on a downward trend.
