Tzaneen: Woman attacked in park

A domestic worker was attacked in Poinsettia Street early Monday morning.

According to Marius Jacobs, an armed response officer at Northern Security, they received a complaint about a woman screaming for help.

Jacobs said the suspect, armed with a screwdriver, attempted to overpower and rape the victim.

He also threatened to stab her, but she fought back and took the screwdriver from her attacker.

The suspect fled the scene without hurting the victim.

The area was searched but he was not found.

Questions have been raised about the safety around the pond and Park next to Poinsettia Street.

Throughout the day a number of vehicles park there.

The park is in between Park Street, Poinsettia Street, Bohemia Street, Jacaranda Street and Circle Drive.

The Park is frequently used by taxi drivers to wash their vehicles. The Park is also constantly filled with litter.

Residents have also complained that criminals allegedly use the Park to watch them, since there has been a recent spike in crime in that area.

Letaba Herald did bring it under the municipality’s attention but they did not comment.

Joggers and other community members are urged not to use the Park alone.
