Nurses safety questioned at a clinic

The Julesburg Community Health Centre in Rhulani is faced with yet another challenge of tackling safety and theft in their premises after parts of a planned patient vehicle were stolen last Monday.

On Tuesday, security officers at the clinic were astonished as they discovered one of the vehicles was supported firmly by rocks after four wheels were removed overnight. Maake police spokesperson, Constable Rufus Magoro said a case has been opened, and no arrest has been made yet.

It is alleged that suspects were well informed about the clinic as they managed to gain entry unnoticed in the presence of guards. “No one heard anything as this was taking place, the securities and the nurses were not aware until morning,” the source told the Herald.

The driver said he parked the car around 6pm at the clinic as he had to take another vehicle for inspection. “When I arrived in the morning at 6am I found that the vehicle had no wheels, and the officers didn’t know what happened as they were surprised as well,” he said.

Community members expressed their anger and dismay over criminal activities in the area on social media as a certain church was also ransacked.

This might be a minor incident but the Department of Health suffers at the hand of those that steal or vandalize property. The clinic operates 24 hours on a daily basis and there is a team of guards that also work at night. This is also a cause for safety concern on the premises especially for health workers who work there on night duty.

In case of emergencies, many innocent citizens will be robbed off their rights to access of health facilities in time because of theft.
