Combrinck in court on charges of negligent and drunk driving

A post on social media about an accident between Namakgale and Gravelotte spread like wild fire yesterday morning.

The resident who wrote the post, Jaco Gericke, who works for Maponya 911, alleged that on his arrival at the scene of the accident, he found Nicholas Combrinck, who appeared shocked and pale, sitting in a stationary vehicle.
Gericke proceeded to do a rapid sample history on the patient and found that he was suffering from a cardiac issue.
“He was not aggressive towards me and I did not smell any alcohol on him,” said Gericke.
Gericke left the scene to fetch medical equipment to help the driver.
On his way to the ambulance, he witnessed police officers removed the driver from the vehicle with allegedly excessive force. This, according to Gericke.
Also, after the driver was handcuffed, he was apparently assaulted and threw into the police van.
According to the Police Provincial spokesperson, colonel Ronel Otto, the driver resisted arrest.
The driver was arrested and taken to hospital so that blood tests could be done.
Colonel Otto said the 53 year old Combrinck appeared in the Namakgale Magistrate court on three counts Wednesday morning.
The three counts include reckless and negligence driving, drunk driving and resisting arrest.
Release on warning was revoked and the bail was fixed at the amount of R1 000.
The case was remanded to September 27 for further investigation.
