VIDEO: Racist attack on petrol attendant in Tzaneen

A Tzaneen petrol attendant was assaulted by two men in the late hours of Saturday night at the Sasol garage.

According to Marius Jacobs from Northern Security, they received a panic alert on Saturday evening around 23.18.

A car with three men had stopped at the garage earlier for fuel.

‘They asked the petrol attendant for a R100 worth of 93 petrol. The attendant told the driver that they only have 95. The driver agreed and asked him to fill up using the 95.  At that point one of the passengers got out of the car and started to mock the attendant,’ Jacobs told the Herald.

Another passenger exited the vehicle and started assaulting the attendant.

CCV Camera footage clearly show the two men beating the attendant, while a third individual, believed to be the driver,  tried to intervene and stop them.

The men, Hermanus van Dyk (36) and Danie le Roux (27) appeared in court on Monday and both were released on bail of R500 and R1 000 respectively.

Charges against the third individual were dropped.

The other two suspects will appear in court again on Monday June 27.
