There was a crime downturn for the Tzaneen area

After numerous criminal activity during the holidays, residents will be relieved at the downturn of crime in and around the Tzaneen area.

No house break-ins or armed robberies have been reported since last week Monday, according to Marius Jacobs, an armed response officer at Northern Security.

Jacobs would like to give credit to the Watchdog platform he created.

The platform links the community, SAPS and security companies, which makes crime prevention easier.

Residents should, however, still be alert.

Jacobs advise to close windows and tighten the window screws.

Do not leave lights on where curtains are left open.

Do not expose your movements and valuables to people passing by.

Remove valuables that are close to windows.

Ensure outside lights are working and that your yard is clean of any overgrown bushes which can be used for hiding spots.

Ensure your house is clearly marked for emergency vehicles to easily spot your house.

Make sure your Armed Response firm have access to your premises.

Regularly test your alarm system to ensure its working when needed.

Always keep emergency numbers close by.

If you see any suspicious or criminal activity please inform authorities.
