MEC wants to boost farming

Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Nakedi Kekana recently visited Phalaborwa to boost agriculture in the area.

She entered into a partnership with Palabora Copper Mine (PMC) to establish an agricultural entrepreneurship development programme in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.

The programmes will include providing training and development, production inputs, infrastructure, and access to land for community projects. Both parties signed the memorandum of understanding, and the collaboration covered several areas and project specific agreements. She also visited Maseke Crushpen where she vaccinated livestock against lumpy skin disease and dogs against rabies.

Rabies is a fatal disease caused by wild animals such as jackals, and wild dogs. The common signs of rabies are, changes in behaviour and neurological symptoms, which may include the following signs, excessive salivation, paralysis, inability to swallow, continuous vocalisation, convulsions, aggressiveness, or nonresponsive behaviour.

Animal owners are advised to report any suspected rabid animals immediately to either a state or private veterinarian, animal health technician or the police.
