This year’s edition recorded new winners for both the men’s and women’s categories in the 21km race.

Giyani runners supported the 2024 Foskor Marathon in Namakgale in great numbers on Saturday with the Giyani Gallopers Athletics Club boasting their blue and white attire with pride. Lucky Mohale from Nedbank Athletics won the race in a time of 01:04:29, followed by Sibusiso Nzima with 01:04: 40 and Sibusiso Kubheka from Excel Running Club third with 01:04:44 on the clock. In the women’s race Karabo Mailula from Tuks Athletics Club took the win in a time of 01:15:03, followed by Neheng Khattala in a time of 01:15:18 and Getenesh Agafew third in a time of 01:15:24. In the 10km race, a surprise win came from 15-year-old Moganano Mmadibale from the University of Limpopo Club, who outshined the other women with a time of 43:22. Mogano, a Gr 10 learner at Klass Mothapo Secondary School in Mankweng, told the Herald that she did not expect to win. “I’m very excited that I won.”

“The prizemoney will put food on the table as my mother is unemployed and my dad passed away last year,” she said. The winners of 21km races took home R50 000 each. No one was able to take home the extra R50 000 which is given to breaking the records. Elana Meyer’s record of 1:12:19 set in 1999 and Ezael Thloho’s 1997 men’s record still stand.
