Dr Tshegofatso gives back to former school
Dr Tshegofatso Selomo, a veterinarian, believes that ‘charity begins at home’, hence he hosted a career exhibition at his former school, Meridian College, recently.
He was a top-performing learner and a former head boy in 2017. He is now a qualified veterinarian after he qualified from the University of Pretoria, the only institution in the country to offer the course. Together with his team, LIT, a group of young people who believe in bringing solutions to the community, they shared knowledge. on their fields of study with the Gr 8 to Gr 12 classes.
The group touched on subject choices, life at university, and their jobs Speakers on the day included Ingrid Baloyi, a plant pathologist; Shiluva Chauke, a horticulturist and an entrepreneur; and Tintswalo Shipalana, a journalist. The learners were engaging, asking questions on the fields of study and how to overcome challenges should they fail Gr 12.

Jackson Chimombe, mathematics and life sciences teacher and HOD for STEM subjects, said the day was very educational. “The kids are lucky to have had such enlightening presentations,” he said. Selomo concluded the day expressing his gratitude for the opportunity. “I believe it is the start of something bigger.
“I hope to have inspired the learners to chase their dreams and not allow anyone to discourage them. “This shouldn’t be a once-off event, but the start of a journey until they become productive members of society and excel in what they do.
