MEC inaugurates the new Hosi in Magona

The community of Magona village in Giyani has welcomed the new chief after the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Basikopo Makamu, inaugurated Hosi Vusimuzi Nxumalo into office on Friday.

The newly inaugurated chief fills the void left by Hosi Busa Nxumalo who died from Covid-19- related complications in 2021. Speaking during the presentation of the chieftaincy certificate to Hosi Nxumalo, the MEC appealed to the community of Magona village to embrace the new chief and desist from infighting caused by division in the royal family.

“I want to reassure the people of this village that there shouldn’t be any doubt about who is the legitimate chief of this community because he is right here. Don’t pay attention to anyone who tries to convince you otherwise because some of them already approached us, and together we talked and decided that crowning him was the proper course of action,” he advised. Makamu went on to say that the issue of chieftaincy belonged to royal family members and did not need to be resolved through the courts.

“You must understand that if one family member in a community becomes a chief, the whole family automatically becomes part of the running of that community, so there is no need for you to fight each other through the courts,” he said. Meanwhile, Hosi Vusimuzi Nxumalo acknowledged the differences among the royal family members during his speech, comparing the chieftaincy position to a beauty contest where everyone is competing to win.

“However, once a winner is declared in a beauty pageant, everyone starts to accept it. Therefore, I think even those who were tugging in the opposite direction in this matter will start to accept the truth as the reality of the situation sinks in,” he stated. He urged community members to unite to bring development to the village. “I would like to assure you as your leader that any development that comes into this village will benefit you first before anyone else,” he said, vowing to uphold the needs of his community.
