Police and freight industry nab suspects

The police in Limpopo joined forces with the road freight industry on July 6, arresting seventeen suspects at a roadblock in Phalaborwa and Namakgale.

The collaboration between the provincial and local teams and the road freight industry resulted in the apprehension of the suspects for cases ranging from possession of dagga, contravening the Immigration Act, possession of precious metal to possession of counterfeit goods.

A total of six suspects were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act. Three people were arrested for the possession of dagga. Six people were arrested for public drinking. One suspect was nabbed for the possession of precious metals (gold) and contravening the Immigration Act.

One person was arrested for the possession of counterfeit goods, possessing counterfeit skin-lightening products, and contravening the Immigration Act. In addition, 19 summonses for contravening the Road Traffic Act were issued and two taxis were impounded.

The provincial commissioner of Limpopo, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe is impressed with the joint efforts of the members to protect and ensure the safety of the residents of the province. The suspects will appear before local magistrate’s courts soon.
