Shivulani Tigers rips Silver Foxes apart

Dzumeri Silver Foxes proved to be too slow against the swiping paws of Shivulani Tigers during a Mayor’s Cup tournament match played at Giyani Stadium over the weekend.

The two teams were battling for a spot in the semi-finals next week. The stakes were very high as each team wanted to appease their cheering supporters in the grandstand. The Tigers showed their dominance in the tournament by finding the net first a few minutes into the first half, a move that most people expected would make the Foxes’ camp panic.

Surprisingly, that was not the case, the Foxes pushed forward with determination and a show of strength. It did not take long before the Foxes found the net and levelled the score at 1-1 before halftime. Throughout the first half the level of play between the two teams was equal. However, in the second half of the match, the Tigers were more than determined to have some fox skin hung out to dry for everyone else to see.

They had come a long way to lose the game, from 32 down to 8 teams. There was nothing else that could stand in their way, not even some determined foxes. With renewed determination and probably some pep talk from the coach, the Tigers scored their second goal about 20 minutes into the second half and then cemented their lead with a third goal a few minutes later to make it 3-1 against the Foxes.

Attempts by the Foxes to chase the score were fruitless; hence the Tigers won the match and is proceeding to the next level. The Shivulani Tigers are expected to meet some of the toughest teams that also qualified as the last four teams in the tournament on Saturday next week. The teams are Mninginisi Gezani United from Ward 16, Hastalavista United from Ward 20, and Makosha Wonder Boys from Ward 14. All of these teams will be battling it out for the tournament trophy that comes with R22 500 prize money
