Young cancer fighter laid to rest

Bubbly, full of life, a fighter, and a courageous young boy, that’s how Mathibela Thabang Malesa’s mom wants to remember him.

Thabang (8) from Namakgale passed away recently, at Mediclinic Tzaneen. Thabang’s mom, Mabore Malesa, told the Herald that his death came as a shock as he had completed his brain cancer treatment and chemotherapy recently and was looking strong.

However, she says she has many happy memories which they shared in his eight years of life.
“He loved music, playing games, and riding his bike. “He would sing for me and tell me not to worry, he will be fine. “He called me his superhero,” she said. He was laid to rest on March 18, at Namakgale Cemetery,  in the presence of friends and family.

Thabang was born on January 14, 2015, at the Phalaborwa Clinic. He was the fourth child of
Mmabore Ophilia Malesa and late Thapelo Edson Malesa. He started his Grade 1 at Schiettocht Primary School and then went to Bushfeld Bethel Christian Academy until his last day.

He leaves behind his mother, two siblings, Sharon and Morape Malesa, and his niece, Ntsako Malesa.
Mabore concluded by thanking the community of Phalaborwa and everyone who has been supporting Thabangthroughout his journey.
