Mopani TVET recognises their students’ achievements
Mopani TVET College held an artisan recognition ceremony, open day and the formal unveiling of Phalaborwa Campus administration building recently.
The event was attended by the Department of Higher Education, science and innovation deputy director-general for the TVET branch, Sam Zungu.
Zungu officially unveiled the opening administration building and honoured the 138 artisans who were recognised by the department for successfully completing their trades.
Zungu said he was very impressed with the coordination of the ceremony and the conduct of the students.
“When I arrived the artisans were wearing overalls and not graduation gowns. It showed that they are ready to work. We are hands-on people, we want to get to work.”
He also expressed his gratitude to the electricians and said that they could be instrumental in finding solutions to the problems at Eskom and help to combat load shedding.
The college principal, Dr Levy Baloyi handed over toolboxes to the artisans.

“I don’t want you to suffer by not getting a job.
“I want you to create your own jobs by opening your own businesses with these tools,” he said.
Baloyi pleaded with the private sector and government entities to create opportunities for all students coming from the TVET sector.
Speaking on behalf of the students, SRC president, Isaac Chauke congratulated the artisans and thanked the college management in making sure that they produce and recognise trade tested artisans.
On the same day the college hosted its open day that saw thousands of high school learners and out of school youth gracing the event where they were given information such as career guidance, financial aid, application and registration dates.
