Hail storm wreak havoc in Hoedspruit
Farmers and residents in Hoedspruit were taken by surprise when a hailstorm hit some parts of the area on Monday.
The unexpected weather change caught a lot of residents off guard as there were no signs that a hail storm was heading to their area.
Marna Meintjes of Moriah Citrus Estate said that the extent of the damage to the fruit will only be seen on Wednesday but some of the fruit trees have lost a lot of leaves as a result of being hit by the hail stones.
‘We can’t confirm on how bad the fruit has been damaged as we need to inspect everything before we can know how much we lost,’ said Meintjes.
Unifruit Blyde River manager, Fanie Meyer said some of their fruit are damaged by the hail storms.
While others were hit by the hail storm some areas only received rain and wind.
Farms like Ambrosia Citrus Estate did not suffer any damage.
While the farmers and residents who reside near the Blyde had huge hail stones, Acornhoek residents were also hit by the hail storm, although the effect was not enormous.
