Morongwa performs at national level

According to her coach, Leonard Nkuna, out of the 36 learners who were part of the athletics team she is the only one going to the nationals. She outshone other athletes in the 80m race, where she took the first position in Polokwane in the provincial games. As a result she represented Limpopo province in Potchefstroom in the North-West.

Her school, Mavabaza Primary School in Joppie Village, organised a breakfast send off party for her. Principal of the school, Philpot Ngobeni, said he saw it befitting to celebrate the young athlete and wishing her well at the nationals. “As a school we have not had learners who went to the nationals in years. “The celebrations are also to encourage other learners to start taking sports seriously,” he said.

Stakeholders, including Xihoko circuit manager, Magwaza Ngomani; Xihoko School Sports Association; Ritavi Athletics Association and Mavhavaza and Magomani traditional houses came to observe the occasion. The guests, starting with Ngomani and Ngobeni, contributed money towards her trip and the school also handed her a gift. In North West she made it to the semi-finals where she unfortunately didn’t qualify to go to the finals.

Gavaza Ngobeni, Ritavi Athletics chairperson, was one of the officials who went to Potchefstroom. She congratulated all athletes from the province who took part. Both the Limpopo high school and primary school teams attained position five in the national games. The School Sport Association congratulated Kwena Matla, an athlete from Capricorn, for breaking a 22 year old record by jumping 1.75m in the high jump.
