GTM starts improvements to roads

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) under the leadership of the new mayor, Gerson Molapisane, has started his term with visible signs of infrastructure improvements.

An extensive project to repair roads and potholes in Tzaneen town is currently underway. “The Boundary Street project commenced on November 5 and it is expected to be concluded by
February 4,” said Neville Ndlala spokesperson of GTM.

“The cost of the project is R4.9 million. The appointed contractors are a joint venture between Quality Plant Hire and Expectra 388. “The scope of the project includes base correction, tar patching, asphalt overlaying and cleaning of water drainage pipes.” He said the project covers the Boundary/Adshade intersection up to the Tiger Wheel & Tyre intersection.

The project also includes the reconstruction of pavement layers, road markings, and cleaning of water drainage in Billy Maritz Street, Ndlala said. GTM also had an agreement with a developer whereby a commercial centre project was approved on the condition that the developer repairs the access road (Bert Booysen Street) towards the R71. The road was opened on June 25. The developer is about to start building the commercial centre on the land behind Sasol garage, he said.
