Two alleged pangolin traders out on bail, third in custody

Two out of the three men arrested for allegedly trying to sell a pangolin have been granted R5000 bail each by the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court.

They made their first court appearance on Tuesday, November 2 and they are expected to re-appear on Monday, December 13. The trio has been identified as Euvin Kanki Sibuyi (28), Pieter Ntuwane (32) and Jackobus Bogishi Makgoro (28).

Hoedspruit police spokesperson, Sgt Livhuwani Mulaudzi said Makgoro remains in custody as he was not a first-time offender for further police investigation. Mulaudzi said the police received information that the trio was going to sell pangolin in Hoedspruit on Friday, October 29 around 10:00.

“According to the information received, the suspects were communicating with the alleged buyer who agreed to meet with them at KFC parking area to buy the pangolin for R250 000. “Provincial stock theft police acted upon the information and they went to the KFC parking area.

“While there, the police noticed one of the three men approaching the alleged buyer to sell the pangolin. They immediately approached the vehicle that was carrying that pangolin and were arrested,” she said.
