Dagga haul destroyed

Police in Bolobedu discovered a massive dagga plantation and arrested two suspects at Ga-Matipane village in Bolobedu on Thursday.

The dagga plants were found in the maize field in the backyard of one of the suspects’ house.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said following the discovery of a dagga plantation they searched houses belonging to the two suspects and found a bag and five small plastics bags full of dagga.

Ngoepe said an estimated street value of the dagga plantation and the processed dagga is about R100 000.

He applauded members of the community for providing police with information which led to the discovery of dagga and the arrests of the two suspects.

It was alleged that the dagga plants were grown and then harvested and sold to users.

The suspects were remanded in police custody when they appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on charges of cultivating and dealing in dagga on Friday.

They were due to appear for bail application at the time of going to press.
