No Letaba Show anytime soon
The community of Tzaneen and surrounding areas have been deprived of the Letaba Show for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Naomi Excell, manager and Letaba Show coordinator at Agri Letaba, the show welcomed 200 local and national exhibitors in 2019, giving them an opportunity to display and market their products. “For a lot of exhibitors shows are their sole source of income and they have been greatly affected by the pandemic.
“The annual Letaba Show was not only hosted by the community for the community, but maintenance of the Tzaneen Showgrounds before, during and after the show created a lot of work for local service providers,” she explained.
The show also presented networking platforms for local farmers, such as the livestock show. “As a result, those opportunities have also been missed.”

Agri Letaba’s reach is not only Tzaneen, but includes Letsitele, Ofcolaco, Trichardtsdal, Georges Valley and Mooketsi. The Herald asked Excell if there is a chance of hosting the event since lockdown regulations have been eased to 2000 people in public spaces. “Unfortunately we have a lot more than 2000 visitors per day through the gates.
We will have to wait a little bit longer before we can present the show in the traditional sense, she added. However, not all is gloom as the Agri Letaba is planning to host an ‘Amazing Race’ event which will take place between February and March next year.
