Attendant returns lost bag

A four-day vacation would have ended in tears if the lady who found a lost bag was not a woman of ethics.

Carmen Welz cannot stop thanking Vivian Ouma Mahlakwane for her kind heart.

Carmen was travelling from Johannesburg to Timbavati Private Nature Reserve for a four-day vacation with a friend.

They stopped at Total Drakensig garage and when they left they did not notice that a bag was missing. Vivian is a cashier at Debonairs Pizza Hoedspruit, she found the old lady’s bag and kept it safe.

“I went to the toilet and found the toilet door closed, I then went out. When I came back the door was still closed but it was not locked inside. I decided to open the door and that is when I saw the bag. I took the bag to the manager at the garage, we opened the bag just to see if we can find anything to contact the owner but we did not find anything,” she said.

Vivian’s said what made her worry a lot was the medication in the bag.

“I saw the medication in the bag and I started to worry, It is not good for a chronic person to miss taking their meds. But I was positive that the owner would come back, so I left the bag with the manager and they did come back and I was relieved,” she said.

Carmen said she only noticed that her bag was missing when they got to the gate at Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

“Because we had stopped at the garage, we decided to go back and check there. We found the bag with all the valuables untouched, my ID, bank cards, two cellphones, an iPad, car keys and R3000 cash was still inside,” said the thankful visitor.

She said she wanted to take a photo with Vivian for memories but unfortunately she was on lunch.

Vivian’s manager Olga Neuhoff said customers service is her first priority.

“She is honest and well-spoken, Vivian is also a jack of all trades and helps at all sales points in the store. All our cashiers are crossed trained,” she said.
