Young Phalaborwa film maker to produce first movie

A young man from Mashishimale outside Phalaborwa uses filmmaking to take young people from the streets.

Innocent Setagane (23) told the Herald that after witnessing and reading about gender-based violence (GBV), he decided to make a movie about the impact of violence in the community.

“It is sad to always hear about these social ills, we can no longer accept that our women and children are abused on our watch.

“Hopefully, through the movie, people can see how bad violence is affecting us as a community. Our message is for the community to do the right thing,” Setagane explained.

The Violence, the movie to be soon released.

The movie will be officially released on Saturday, July 31.

At the moment they are currently shooting episodes of The Violence season 1, which will be broadcasted on YouTube every Saturday and Sunday at 18:00 from September.

Setagane does not have any a film qualification, but he never allowed that to stop him to pursue his love for creating content.

“I wanted to show that people from the villages are talented. I don’t want lack of exposure to stop us from reaching our dreams,” Setagane added.
