Health MEC urges Limpopians to recommit to the battle against Covid-19

Limpopo health department has urged members of the public to continue adhering to Covid-19 regulations even though president Cyril Ramaphosa has relaxed the country into alert level 1.

“Covid-19 is still very much with us. Community members are advised that when organising and attending gatherings that are permissible under the current alert level, they must still take precautionary measures against the Covid-19 virus,” said health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba.

She said the anticipated third wave will be extremely disastrous if the current complacency continues.

“People are now relaxed as if alert level 1 is synonymous with the virus is over. Epidemiologists have warned us against the third wave The time to be extra careful is now because it can get disastrous considering that the third wave might visit us before we could have completed even phase 1 vaccination,” warned Ramuthuba.

She also reminded people to be extremely careful the Easter Holiday Season approaches.

“Guided by the lessons we drew from the festive seasons, we have a reason to be concerned about the coming Easter and school holiday. Covid-19 has not departed and it is still virulent. This complacency that we are seeing in parties, weddings, funerals, and other gatherings over the weekends is actually leading us into a dangerous terrain,” she said.

The MEC has requested everyone to recommit themselves to the battle against Covid-19.
