Shivambu appointed Leopards co-coach

This comes after Leopards parted ways with head coach, Dylan Kerr following a 3-0 defeat by Chippa United over the weekend.

38-year-old, Shivambu from Mavambe in Diyani and Lehlohonolo Seema together with goalkeeper coach Sam Banda have been tasked with helping Leopards avoid the dreaded relegation axe at the end of the season.

Leopards are currently languishing on 15th position of the 16 team log table.

Shivambu is not new to being in the hot seat, as he was part of the coaches which successfully helped the team save its Premier Soccer League status last season.

The former Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows and Platinum Stars striker says his ambition is to coach the national under-age teams in the future.

He believes that his experience as a player and as a coach can help the country’s national teams do well internationally.

He is one of the few coaches who participated in almost all the SAFA league structures as a player and also coached in the Multichoice Diski Challenge league.

His coaching career began in the National First Division under coach, Joel Masutha when he helped Black Leopards gain promotion to the PSL, working both as a player and as assistant coach.

However, many soccer lovers only got to recognise Shivambu’s coaching talent last season in the playoffs when he teamed up with Multichoice Diski Challenge coach Mgezi Boboe and Goalkeeper coach Samuel Banda to save their team’s PSL status.

Leopard had lost their head coach Alan Clark who resigned towards the end of the season.

The Venda-based side finished second from the bottom and had to play in the playoffs to save their status.

Shivambu and his team of coaches won the play-offs convincingly beating Ajax Cape Town and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila to retain their PSL status.
