Vukosi swims with the big fish

Local actor, Vukosi Mashele calls 2020 'the year of undeniable grace', after landing two big acting gigs.

The young entertainer made his debut appearance in one of South Africa’s biggest soapies, The Queen, on Tuesday 22 September.

He portrays a ruthless thug who is driven to impress his boss, called BraT.

His other big acting gig is a role in Unmarried, a drama series which he will be making his first appearance in middle October.

He told the Herald that his big break is bitter sweet, because he wishes both his parents, Edward and Florence Mashele, who are now deceased, could see him acting on TV.

“The fact that my parents are not around to share this with me, is tough to swallow.

“However, I know that they would be proud of me. My mother was my rock, biggest cheerleader, best friend and my world,” he said.

Some of his previous roles include acting as Charlie on I number number, Thami Boy in Rhythm City and also a role in Isithembiso.

Vukosi is more than just a cute face, he is also currently completing his BSc degree and says he is passionate about physics.

However, the entertainment bug has bitten him and he could not turn away from the bright lights of showbiz.

He says it all started during a school trip to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research at Medusa.

“There was a student journalist who tagged along and I approached him telling him that I’m interested in media.

“So the student gave me a camera and instructed me to take photos, interview a few people and write an article.

“After my article was published, I was given an opportunity to join the school’s magazine editorial team and three weeks later I was promoted to a deputy editor and that’s where my passion for the industry began,” he added.

He also attributes his success to two of his former teachers, Mubaiwa Killian and Malendi Du Goid at St George College in Nkowankowa who believed in him.

His sister and brother, Jamela Mashele and Hilgard Mashele are super proud of their sibling’s achievements.

“We are really proud of our little brother for promoting the Xitsonga language on TV. “From a young age he has always been a disciplined and confident boy, who would sing and recite poems at church and other events in our village,” she concluded.
