Hoedspruit Farmer’s Market back in business

Hoedspruit residents will be happy to hear that their favourite Farmers Market is back.

Market organiser Cindy Koen said the upcoming market will be on Saturday, 5 September with around 50 stalls.

“All stallholders must wear masks at all times as well as provide a hand sanitizer on their table. All persons visiting the market will be screened and sanitised,” said Koen.

She said the market is every first Saturday of every month.

The market was originally started by the Hoedspruit Chamber of Commerce just over 5 year ago, Tansy McLean then took it over and ran it successfully for 5 years.

She has since handed it over to the From the Region For the Region (FrFr) project run by Kruger 2 Canyons Biosphere Region as part of their market access systems.

“The market had to be suspended since March as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. Due to the market location being situated so close to a provincial border, we could not run the market as an economic relief activity. On average the market has 75 stalls all earning between R2000 and R5000 per market so the economic losses resulted from the lock down was extremely high,” she
said.

Koen said the last market was in March.

“As long as we stay on level 2 it will continue to be on the first Saturday of every month, so our next market will be on 3 October. If we had to move to level 3,4 or 5 it will be cancelled again,” she said.

A variety of items can be found at the market from fresh produce, baked items, pets supplies, clothing, flowers, arts, craft, curious, foods, drinks, home made delights and many more.
