Teenager nabbed for allegedly killing his father

Police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the arrest of the suspect followed an intensive search operation by the police.

A 17-year-old teenage boy who disappeared after the alleged brutal murder of his father near Giyani recently, was arrested in Brooklyn, Pretoria last week.

The gruesome discovery of the 47-year-old man was allegedly made by a family member who went to look for him at his home.

Police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said that upon arrival at the house, a family member reportedly found the body under burnt rubbish with corrugated iron on top.

Mojapelo said that the arrest of the suspect followed an intensive search operation by the police.

Provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, commended the detectives for arresting the suspect within a short space of time.

He raised a concern about the age of the suspect and has called on community members, especially parents, to take their responsibilities as parents seriously.

He said police are working with probation officers and that the case will be handed over to the director of public prosecution for further processing.

The suspect was expected to re-appear in the Giyani magistrate’s court on a charge of murder at the time of going to press.

The motive behind the incident is still being investigated.
