Team Limpopo takes over the race course

A Limpopo rally driver has been named the best navigator in the country.

Louis Menge took home this honour for the 2019-2020 season from the World of Motorsport South Africa (WOMZA).

Menge and his driver, Anton Raaths from Pretoria, also won the prize for best team in Group D and was positioned third overall nationally.

Menge says his motor sport journey started seven years ago when he was a member of Eddie Simpson of Tzaneen’s service crew.

“The feeling when competing is the ultimate adrenaline rush. It is like riding the anaconda at Gold Reef City,” he explained.

He says even though it is an expensive sport, he won’t quit pursuing it as it gives him a sense of fulfillment and joy.

Local motor sport duo, Peter Pilusa, driver, and Brandon Ferns, navigator, also made their mark during the season when they were placed third nationally in Group D.

Recently, during the Salom championship, Pilusa and Ferns were in second position in Class D.

Besides having the same passion for the sport, all of these men believe that they lack support from local businesses and the municipality.

“We are representing the province and also the town, if we can get more financial assistance it would really help us a lot,” Ferns added.

They thanked their sponsors, S&J Auto, Roma Fuels, Midas and BEC Construction.

Pilusa encouraged people to join the sport, irrespective of the type of the vehicle they drive, as long as it is safe.
