Circuit honours excellence

Department of Education's Nkowankowa Circuit hosted an excellence awards ceremony for the Grade 12 class of 2019.

The event was held at Bankuna Hall in Nkowankowa recently.

Eureka Nyanisi was named best performing learner with seven distinctions from an independent school, St Geroge College.

Mikanteko Shingwenyana was named best performing learner with five distinctions from a public school (Magoza Secondary School).

The parents of Minkateko Shingwenyana receiving certificates on her behalf with some of the dignitaries on stage.

Both Nyanisi and Shingwenyana received R10 000 in cash, trophies, certificates and laptops. Their parents accepted the awards on their behalf as they are attending university.

Pastor Bafana Malomane received a standing ovation after motivating the 2020 Grade 12 learners who attended the event.

His topic was titled ‘changing the game plan’. He spoke about the importance of focusing on studies and changing their families’ history through education.

Nkateko Rikhotso from Hudson Ntsanwisi Secondary School promised Malomane and fellow learners that he will pass with a bachelor admission by the end of the year.

“This year I will strive to get admission to degree study so that in January I can fly to university with an airplane to Cape Town,” Rikhotso said.

Nyiko Kubayi, Pastor Bafana Malomane and Nkateko Rikhotso, during the Nkowankowa circuit excellence awards hosted at Bankuna Hall.

The awards also came with a few surprises, Petanenge Secondary School was named the most improved school in the circuit after improving by 17% from 66.6% to 84%.

St George College received a special award from the Nkowankowa circuit for being the most consistent school for the past 10 years. Teachers were also awarded for a good job well done.

Some of the schools who performed well in the various categories included Magoza Secondary School, Hudson Ntsanwisi Secondary School, Zivuku Secindary School and Petanenge Secondary School.
