Local tribal house celebrates dedication of staff

The farm was then turned into a cemetery, where the founders of the farm have been laid there with some of their family members.

The Ga-Kgapane Tribal Office and the Medingen 398LT Foundation under the leadership of Chief Malekutu Kgapane took to celebrating its cemetery cleaning staff last Friday.

The cemetary used to be a farm, with storeage space for food consumed by learners from a nearby school.

The farm was then turned into a cemetery, where the founders of the farm have been laid there with some of their family members.

“This is a hystorical cemetery and we take pride in keeping it clean. The founders of this space have been laid to rest here and with the amount of staff we employ, we make it a point to keep each area of this big cemetary clean. I think that is the least we can do to continue showing our gratitude for the space we were given to turn into a graveside,” exclaimed Chief Kgapane.

Medingen 398LT Foundation members and members of the Kgapane Tribal Council. Matome Edward Kgatla, in charge of toilet maintenance; Emanuel Senokwane, Secretary; Chief Malekutu Kgapane; Ntswaki Ratlabala, Office Administrator; Refilwe Ramoshaba, Treasury and Ramothwala Ngwako, Officiator of traffic at cemetery.

Because the cemetery is very big and cleaning it requires a lot of effort and manpower, the tribal office employs about 80 people, paying them R700 to keep the yard clean all around.

“It’s really not enough money to be paying them given the size of this land and they do an exceptional job at keeping it clean. We have people from all over Kgapane laying their loved ones here to rest and I think it brings them job when they come to visit these graves and find them clean,” the Chief told Letaba Herald.
