TZANEEN: Education fraternity bids farewell to Dambuza

A unionist and a sport fanatic are some of the words used by the Nkowankowa Circuit Manager, Doreen Manzini, when referring to Mavabaza Dambuza during his farewell function at DZJ Mtebule Secondary School recently.

“As the Department of Education we have lost a hardworking person who contributed a lot to our success.

“You have served the department deligently for 38 years and we have seen how you led the school with a character,” said Manzini.

The Circuit Manager also advised Dambuza to rest and enjoy himself during his retirement phase.

Dambuza officially retired as the principal of the school in January this year, after holding the position for the last 20 years.

Some of his success as the headmaster of the institution includes, the school being among the best performing schools in Mopani in 2012, 2017 and producing the best Grade 12 learner (Gill Homu) in Mopani District Municipality last year.

During Homu’s acceptance speech at the Mopani District Municipality Grade 12 Excellence Awards she attributed her success from Dambuza’s leadership.

The ocassion was honoured by different stakeholders including local principals, former educators and former principals, pastors, family and friends of the man of the hour.

The learners kept the guests entertained with rendering dancing, musical and poetry items.

Both learners and teachers gave gifts to their former leader including, a portrait picture done by one of the learners at the school, certificate of appreciation, vouchers and a furniture item to name, but a few.

He started his speech by passing words of gratitude to his colleagues who organised him the farewell function.

“I would like to acknowledge my teachers who made my job easy for me,” he said.

He also encouraged other principals to involve their educators when they want to make big decisions and to not shy away from delegating some of the work to the teachers.

He concluded by challenging the Grade 12 learners to keep up with the good pass rate.
