Local Xitsonga duo scoop music award

The blood brother duo were ecstatic to have walked away with their award and had nothing but gratitude to show to their supporters.

Local Xitsonga music duo have taken on the SATMAs and brought home the award of best Xitsonga album of the year on Saturday, September 28.

The awards were held in the North West province, were nominees were hosted and graced lavishly at the Bokone Boperima Convention Center.

Lawrence Chauke (44) and Sydney Chauke (37) who are blood brothers and go by the the stage name of ‘Buti na Buti’ scooped their first award on the evening since having joined the music industry in 2007.

Mopani Herald asked the duo how their musical journey has been since having started in 2007.

“It was so difficult and a lot of challenges were there and will always be there. But they are not there to distroy us but to take out those hidden potentials in us,” they stated.

The duo also made a brief mention of what made them pursue a career in music.

“The passion we have for music and the gift that God had given to us have made us realise that our golden voices can not be missed by music lovers.”

They were thrilled to have been nominated for the category, but winning it came as an exciting surprise to them.

“The team would like to thank all the people who managed to cast their votes, all the Buti na Buti fans and lovers, the Munghana Lonene radio station and GTM municipality under the ward 23 councillor for the support they gave us. We would not have gotten this far without them,” they exclaimed.

They duo also stated that they stayed in the music industry because they were inspired and motivated by artists like Matshwa Bemuda and Peter Tinat, although the music genres are different.

They concluded by sharing the following words of encouragement, “There are soo many difficulties and challanges in the music industry. People should know that if you want to overcome those challanges you have to be closer to those who knows a lot about music and believe you me, we also did the same. And the outcomes of doing that show now more than ever as we won the SATMA award due to working with people who understand music.”
