Dan village officially gang free paradise

The Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale told the community of Dan Village that he is proud to come from the area, because there is no longer gangsterism.

Mathale was speaking at the official launch of the community safety patrollers at the Dundee Sports Ground in Dan Village recently.

This comes after the local community established a neighbourhood watch which patrols the streets of the village effective from May 1.

As a result gangsterism and other crimes have been drastically reduced.

Some of the patrollers keeping safe the streets and neighbouring villages safe.

Neighbouring communities such as Nkowankowa, Mariveni and Mokgolobotho among others have also established their own community safety patrolling teams.

The Deputy Minister stated that the village has proven to the rest of the country that crime can be eliminated when the people work together and also appealed to local citizens to report criminals for the safety of the whole community.

Mathale donated about 3 500 safety jackets, safety boots, radio phones among other working tools which was donated by different businesses.

The Chief Operator of the patrollers, Joe Rikhotso told Letaba Herald that, their interest is the safety of the community and that they are not focusing on being compensated by government, when asked if the police ministry will compensate the bunch for their hardwork.

However MEC for LEDET, Thabo Mokone, indicated that his department will also assist with economic development in the area as they are currently busy with the revitalisation of the Nkowankowa industrial area which employs local people.

Mathale also promised to get the patrollers a vehicle which will help them work fast and effectively.

Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion included, The Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor, Maripe Mangena; The Executive Mayor of Mopani, Pule Shai; the Tzaneen Cluster Commander, Major General Maggy Mathebula among others.
