Our soccer grannies are back

Local grannies on Wednesday June 19 smashed the french grannies 10-0 on a 20 minute match at the Salif Keita Stadium.

The Vakhegula Vakhegula (grannies grannies) team spent 22 days in France during the FIFA Women’s World Cup period.

The team comprised of 19 grannies from Mpumalanga, Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng from the different team’s branches.

Local grannies on Wednesday June 19 smashed the french grannies 10-0 on a 20 minute match at the Salif Keita Stadium.

During their stay in the European country they visited many places and also played friendly games with the locals. “We received a warm welcome from our french friends and everywhere we visited we were given a warm reception,” explained Kanetani Makhuvela, Vakhegula Vakhegula Coach.

The team was established by philanthropist, Beka Ntsanwisi 12 years ago in Nkowankowa after she saw a need to keep the elderly active.

Ntsanwisi eventually started a grannies soccer team before it took the world by storm. The team has played in countries such as Brazil, America and Russia just to name but a few.
