Phalaborwa: Motlanalo releases beautiful new single

Beauty Rammalo, widely known as Motlanalo, has released her much anticipated debut single, titled ‘Modiegi’, on April 16.

The 25-year-old Phalaborwa musician is reaching new heights in her musical career. In the Afro pop song, she sings about how a person could be a setback, nuisance, disappointment etcetera, to another person, and because of that, the person should rather stay behind and not come with. Motlanalo (a Sepedi name which loosely translates to ‘bearer of hope’) told the PHALABORWA HERALD that the song was influenced by current social settings, events from the past and her fears.

“From an early age all I wanted to do was music, but I only thought that the music industry was for city dwellers. However, I have overcome that stigma and my family and friends encouraged me to keep following my heart,” said the Phalaborwa hit maker, also mentioning that she wants to now give back to Phalaborwa artists by hosting a 100% local artist’s event on June 14, 2019.

Beauty also mentioned her passion for Afro Pop music, stating that she used to emulate Lebo Mathose and the late Brenda Fassie. “It has always been my fantasy to share a stage with one of them,” she continued. Her song Modiegi, was produced by S-Jam of Lunatic Soul Fame.

Beauty said that she would like to work with many more artists of different genres from across Ba-Phalaborwa and her dream is to record a song with either Caiphus Semenya, Zonke Dikana or Steve Kekana.

Beauty promises to turn the music and entertainment industry upside down by introducing folk tales into her music.

Also under the brand name ‘Motlanalo’, she will be hosting an official launch of her musical journey at CU Guest House on June 14, 2019.

According to her, ‘Motlanalo’ is also said to become an annual event that will eventually open doors for other talented artists residing in Ba-Phalaborwa and neighbouring villages.

Beauty explained that the ‘Motlanalo’ concept seeks to inspire hope to the hopeless and to challenge the prevalent stereotype that only in the cities will one find entertainment opportunities.

“It also speaks against the idea that one has to make use of what is at their disposal, as opposed to shifting goal posts in the absence of clear openings and working tools of trade,” said the hit maker.
