PHALABORWA: Horrific accident claims two lives
Police in Phalaborwa are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the accident which claimed two lives.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening, October 16, along the R530 Phalaborwa / Makhushane road next to Makhoma Abattoir in the industrial area outside Phalaborwa.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the White Colt Mitsubishi Bakkie was with five other occupants.
Four of whom were sitting at the back of the bakkie and one passenger in front.
They were travelling from Namakgale to Phalaborwa when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it left the road and overturned. During the process, the occupants who were sitting at the back of the bakkie were thrown out and two died on the scene The other three sustained serious injuries and they were taken by ambulance for medical treatment.
The dedicated team of detectives are busy investigating the matter to establish the cause of the accident.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
The acting station Commander of Phalaborwa SAPS Lt Col Friday Madyagungula Baloyi has sent a message of condolence to the bereaved families.
He assured the families that police investigation will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the root cause of the accident is known.
