TZANEEN: Local soccer star only player representing Limpopo in Nedbank challenge

When local soccer star, Karabo 'Mboma' Mookamedi quit playing soccer two years ago, he did not realise that the best was yet to come.

Mookamedi (23) is the only Limpopo player who is part of the Nedbank Ke yona Team which played against the Free State Stars on Sunday in Tembisa.

He is testament that believing in your dreams and perseverance eventually pays off.

In 2016, the young man quit playing soccer after experiencing some misfortunes in the sport and started working.

However at the end of 2017, he stopped working and went back to his first love,soccer.

The second time around proved to be a charm when he entered the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search and was invited for trials at Peter Mokabe Stadium in Polokwane.

He was part of the five Limpopo players selected to play against 43 other players from the whole country at Bootcamp 48 and eventually made it to the top 16 team.

Born and bred in Nkowankowa the footballer says that this is an opportunity of a lifetime, one that will change his life forever.

“I’m grateful for such a great opportunity, I have learned a lot from the coaches and the different players I came across in the competition,” explained Mookamedi.

The former Ben Vorster High School learner started playing club football at the age of seven at Nkowankowa Barcelona Football Club under the leadership of Coach Peace Khosa.

“I’m happy that he is now playing football at the highest level, he is a disciplined player on and off the field,” said Khosa.

Despite the 2-1 loss of the Ke yona Team to the Ea Lla Koto, the young players are winners as they will all be placed in Premier Soccer League teams voted for by their fans.

They will found out which PSL team they will be playing for on September 26.
