A taste of KLG action takes a youngster to Kaizer Chiefs

The life of a young player who featured in many competitions of KLG Sport in the recent past might be turned around for the better after joining the development/reserve side of the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

This is the popular side called Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team.

As part of the KL Buffaloes team, Thapelo “Sledge” Bokaba took part in a number of competitions staged under the auspices of KLG Sport.

He played in the KLG Schools Sport Event, KLG Easter Tournament and the Pamo Cup in different years.

As an under-14 youngster, he played in the KL Young Buffaloes side that competed in the primary schools category against the likes of Lephepane, Leseka, Modupi, Thabina, Maje, Rita, Mogabe, Craighead and Thabeng primary schools.

In subsequent editions of the competition he played in the Junior Secondary version (for u-16 boys) where Young Buffaloes contested against the likes of Mokhapa, Serurubele, Ramoba, Mahlane and Mafutsane secondary schools.

In the last two years of his visit to Lephepane, he played in the open category where KL Buffaloes faced the KLG All Stars team.

In addition to the Schools Sport Event, Sledge participated in a few editions of the annual KLG Easter Tournament and the Pamo Cup.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity to participate in the explosive environment of KLG tournaments.

“It has been a big privilege for us to be part of electrifying atmosphere of the KLG competitions.

I hope to experience this year’s Easter Tournament”, said Sledge Bokaba.

The Patron of KLG, Kaizer Letsoalo, said it is always motivating to see players advancing to bigger platforms from the KLG stages. “I was pleasantly surprised last week when I visited mates at the Kaizer Chiefs village in Naturena to see Sledge”, said Kaizer Letsoalo.

“The boy is a hard worker and he is utterly gifted. He is a left-footed player who plays many positions including goalkeeping. His best position is at centre-back.

I have no doubt that he will make a mark”, concluded Letsoalo.

Ntsie Lancelot Maphike, official of the Kaizer Chiefs Development, said the boy has a bright future and encouraged him to work very hard.

He was equally surprised to learn that Sledge came from the tutelage hands of Kaizer Letsoalo.

“What a small world!,” exclaimed Maphike.

Other notable KL Buffaloes players who tasted the tough KLG competitions include Dumisani “Junju” Ngwenya (Orlando Pirates, now loaned to Witbank Spurs) and goalkeeper Veli Mothoa (took Baroka FC to the NFD, and now reserve goalkeeper of Chippa United).

The Administrator of KLG Sport, Trilly Mogoboya, said many SAB and ABC Motsepe teams in this province have harvested players from the football stage offered by KLG Sport.

It is said that the 2018 edition of the KLG Easter Tournament will be staged on 30, 31 March and 01 April.

Affiliations are open for only 16 teams to be accommodated on a “first come first serve basis”.
