Tzaneen Labour Centre closes down

The Department of Labour has closed down its Tzaneen Labour Centre.

This after the centre was found to be non-compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

According to the provincial spokesperson, Lerato Makomene, inspectors found that the building has open electrical lines, the concrete slab is leaking and that it does not meet the emergency evacuation requirements. “The open electrical lines increase the risk of electrical fire.

A certified engineer is needed to assess the damage caused by the leakage through the concrete slab as it might have weakened the structure over the years.

Furthermore, the building has no emergency exits,” said Makomene. She further said the services will not be affected as a contingency plan has been drafted to deliver efficient services to clients.

“Inspectors will continue conducting inspections, the Unemployment Insurance Fund and Compensation Fund services will be rendered at visiting points,” she said.

She added that the department has arranged temporary accommodation at the municipal hall to service clients.”
‘’The Department of Labour has zero tolerance for non-compliance.  The safety of staff members and clients is a priority. The office will be closed until the matter is resolved,’’ said the Provincial Chief Inspector, Phaswane Tladi.

The Department of Labour Limpopo Management apologies for the inconvenience caused to all stakeholders affected by the closure.
