FULL STORY: Three vehicle pile-up ends with driver in hospital

The truck slid for approximately 20m on the asphalt before coming to halt.

At around 15:00 on the afternoon of November 13, a taxi driver was headed in the Tzaneen direction when he grew impatient approximately 5,4km outside of Tzaneen and decided to overtake the vehicle/s (it is unknown how many were in front of him) ahead of him.

He then went into oncoming traffic to overtake the vehicle/s, where he saw a cement truck, fortunately empty, hurtling towards him.

The driver of the cement truck took evasive action and attempted to avoid making impact with the taxi, but was unable to avoid all impact.

The taxi is suspected to have then made impact with the cement truck on the middle-right wheel, crushing the front-right side of the taxi.

This impact lead to the truck overturning and the taxi cannoning into another taxi immediately behind the truck.

A bystander stares at what remains of the taxi that attempted to overtake a vehicle/s and in turn collided with a cement truck, sending the driver to hospital.

The truck slid for approximately 20m on the asphalt before coming to halt.

Both taxis went off onto the side of the road where they came to a stop.

The driver of the overtaking taxi was then rushed to hospital reportedly in serious condition.

The truck driver complained of a pain in his leg, but was not seriously injured.

The driver of the second taxi was also treated accordingly, but not seriously injured.

There were no deaths reported.
