Large scale traffic jams were caused and the road was closed from both directions for traffic during the accident scene clearance as they waited for assistance from provincial officers.

“The road remains a major concern. We should really look at weight restrictions on the road,” an eyewitness told the Hoedspruit Herald.

The Hoedspruit community has made several pleas to the Maruleng Municipality traffic officers to provide their services after hours as drivers fail to obey road rules which make it dangerous to drive but the pleas fell ondeaf ears.

According to a reliable source, it is alleged that the traffic department do not have a budget for paying officers overtime.

When contacting the Maruleng Traffic Department, the Hoedspruit Herald was referred to the Maruleng Municipality for answers, several attempts have been made to the Maruleng Municipality spokesperson, John Seokoma, but have drawn blank.
