Magistrate takes a girl-child to work

A local Magistrate took a group of learners to work, as part of the 'Take a girl-child to work' programme last week at the Lenyenye Magistrate Court.

Magistrate Carol Hon’wana, who works at the Lenyenye Magistrate Court hosted over 30 learners from three schools namely, Phusela Secondary School, Nelson Ramodike High School and Seboye Secondary School.

The learners who participated in the initiative were Grade 10-12 students from the three schools.

The occasion was meant for girls only, however a few boys snuck in and did not want to miss the opportunity of exploring their future possible career path.

“I have no problem with the male learners who are part of the programme because years back when I hosted another group of learners there was a male learner who sneaked in and now he is an advocate.

I am doing this as a form of motivation, to try make them realise that their dreams are attainable if they are focused, disciplined and are dedicated in their studies,” said Hon’wana.

Hon’wana also gave the learners application forms from the University of Limpopo and promised to take back the forms to the university by herself.

She also identified learners who are unable to afford to pay the registration fee (R220) which accompanies the registration forms and she said she will raise some funds to assist them to pay the fee.

“We should have started with this programme a long time ago, some of my of former learners did not even know which career path they wanted to take.

My wish is for the whole school to participate in this program not only the few learners who have been chosen,” expressed Audrey Sekgoka, Nelson Ramodike Secondary School,Teacher.

The learners also got a chance to sit in court and listen to cases and they were also served lunch.
