Matthew vii is reaching for the stars

His childhood dream of being a hip hop artist came true last year when he auditioned for the annual Marula Festival where he was scouted by a South African Musical legend, Dj Oskido who was the judge.

Phalaborwa born and bred musician is climbing new heights on his musical career.

Matthew Koza (20) known to his fans as Matthew vii, hails from Namakgale Township in Phalaborwa.

His childhood dream of being a hip hop artist came true last year when he auditioned for the annual Marula Festival where he was scouted by a South African Musical legend, Dj Oskido who was the judge.

Matthew vii, travelled to Johannesburg where he recorded a song called H.F.S (Hook For This Song) which was produced by Bobsta, Oskido’s brother.

He is currently signed to Africa Lit Records, owned by Boomboombass, Oskido’s son after being impressed by his talent at this year’s Marula festival.

“I have had people who have been supportive and guided me through out my musical career such as Dj Eddie Crook, Htee, Monzol and other local musicians.

My music is different from other artists, I call it ‘insanity’ as it includes Hiphop, RnB, House and Rock music,” said Koza.

He was managed by Dj Eddie Crook and his mother Charity Koza and he also got help from different people in Ledet and Seapalo Sekoati, MEC for the Limpopo department of economic development, environment and tourism.

He says that all these people have helped him to be more focused and to work harder.

He will release his debut song under his recording label “celebrating life” and his other songs on June 24 at Hlolwa Lodge where he will also be shooting his video on the event.

His family plans to also do his 21st birthday party on the same day.

Artists such as Dj Htee jocstor, Kayla, Dj Moss tee, Dj Bonzai, Php finest, King Monada, Impulse, RexBryn (Random) and Mckay from Cape Town.

“Phalaborwa must not miss the event and I would like to appreciate their support throughout,” added Koza.
