Lion on the loose close to Phalaborwa

According to a Facebook post a lion "which is presumed to be from Letaba Ranch" - made his way onto community property near Gravelotte.

According to a Facebook post by Drew Abrahamson, Owner at Captured In Africa – Exclusive Safaris and Founder at Captured In Africa Foundation (CIAF), the lion – which is presumed to be from Letaba Ranch – made his way onto community property near Gravelotte.

Drew said that when she received the news of his escape on Saturday  May 20, they had a window period of two weeks to search for the lion, however now the window period has been reduced to a few hours before “they locate to shoot”.

Abrahamson continues in her Facebook post that this “does not bode well for him at all” as he has reportedly killed livestock.

While residents and people in and around the area are being warned to be alert and keep a safe distance, Abrahamson says she hopes Limpopo Nature Conservation will allow them to recapture the animal instead of shooting it on sight and has called on members of the public to add their support to this call.
