HOEDSPRUIT: Community still up in arms over councilor

“As the community we understand that anyone engaged in corrupt activities must be removed from a public institution..."

Despite the Ward 5 plea to the Maruleng municipality through a memorandum submitted to the acting Municipal Manger on Mach 6, showing how tired they were of their ward councilor, Rebecca Malepe, the Municipality has done nothing thus far.

This resulted in the Ward 5 community taking to the streets on Monday April 10.

“As the community we understand that anyone engaged in corrupt activities must be removed from a public institution because our elected public representative must serve us honestly, diligently with dignity and respect”, stated the secretary of the Community Representative Council, Amos Medupi.

The community blocked the streets with large rocks and burned tires as early as 3am on Monday morning, making sure that no public transport will transport people to work that day.

The Hoedspruit police station commander requested a meeting with the Community Representative Council (CRC) as well as the Maruleng ward councilors.

“We hope that we will reach a consensus and our cries will be heard”, he further stated.
