MODJADJISKLOOF: Bus ticket salesman steals over 800k

A bus ticket seller was arrested for stealing almost a million rand from a bus services company in Modjadjiskloof.

Matome Mataga (44) was arrested by police Commercial Crime Unit members, popularly known as the Hawks on Friday. The Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said the suspect was arrested for stealing R812 233,55 while working as a ticket seller for the bus company.

Maluleke said the company reported the case of theft of money to the Hawks in 2016 after the auditor of the company found that some money from ticket sales was missing.

β€œThe investigation revealed that the suspect embezzled money from the company from 2004 until 2016,” said Maluleke.

Mataga appeared in the Kgapane Magistrate Court on Monday and was granted a bail of R2 000.

The case was postponed to May 16, pending further investigations.
