Local athlete competes at a national level

Hlambela Baloyi from Tzaneen is set to make our town proud!

A Mopani District under 17 athlete champion will represent the Limpopo Province at the national championships soon.

Hlambela Baloyi (17) attained position two at the Limpopo Schools Athletics (LIMSA) Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday March 10.

Baloyi a grade 11 Hudson Ntsanwisi Secondary learner from Nkowankowa Township, ran a personal best of 49,50 seconds at the 400 metres race.

He came second after the national defending champion, Marco Myburgh, from the Waterberg District Municipality who ran a personal best of 48,68 seconds.

Baloyi and Myburgh will represent the province at the National level at the Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban from March 29 to April 1.

“I feel like he will break his personal best of 49,50 seconds, because when he competes with top athletes he brings his top game and together with him we are currently working on a resistant training which improves the split seconds reaction from the start,” said Conrad Shikwambana, Baloyi’s Coach.

Shikwambana added that his athlete promised him as his coach that he will beat Myburgh at the national competition in Durban.
